During the first week of November, Lisbon City Council and Made of Lisboa experienced the spirit of the Web Summit up close.
On the 2nd of November we presented the masterclass ”Welcome to Lisbon’s entrepreneurial ecosystem”. In this session we tried answering the question “Why is Lisbon “Europe’s best capital work and play”? with our partners Startup Lisboa, Invest Lisboa and Startup Portugal. We covered the ecosystem incentives, the startup landscape and how you can get started if you want to move here. We also had a fireside chat with Matt Waite from Apres and Priscilla C. Pinto from Carpe Data who shared their story about settling in Lisbon.
At the end of that same afternoon we hosted “Connect Lisboa” and witnessed a memorable moment of celebration of the feeling of returning to some normality with an informal interaction between several representatives of international embassies, and players of the city’s ecosystem and the Government.
Margarida Figueiredo, General Director For Economy and Innovation, Paddy Cosgrave CEO of Web Summit, City Councillor Diogo Moura and Mayor Carlos Moedas were the hosts of this ceremony, sharing the optimism, belief and ambition in their words with more than 200 guests.
The presence of a stand representing the ecosystem of the city of Lisbon is one of the regular highlights of our presence at the Web Summit. This year we had the presence and mutual help of our partners Startup Lisboa and Invest Lisboa. In this space, Web Summit participants had the opportunity to learn a little more about the city’s ecosystem, in addition to talking with various direct stakeholders and representatives of the Lisbon Municipal Council.
Another highlight of Made of Lisboa’s presence at the Web Summit are the startups we offered Alpha and Beta tickets, to represent the city’s ecosystem, showing some of the best innovation created in Lisboa.
